About
Using a mix of organic and in-organic figures, my work encompasses themes of environmental research, botanical focuses, and accentuates natural spaces as offering transcendental experiences beyond human understanding. When humans come in contact with our natural environments, there is emphasis on coexistence, how nature has adapted to human interference, and the realization that its strength and resistance often manifests in ways that are synonymous to femininity. These ideas are displayed in my work in a conceptual manner, using materials ranging from oil paint, to found objects aiming to provide a sense of curiosity, ambiguity, and appreciation among those who view it. My botanical compositions often contain repetitive, unknown shapes in the background that are whimsical in nature to highlight the subjects in the foreground in an illustrative manner. Collages in my practice contain repetitive features as well, but repetitiveness is used to point out the recollection of that material or occurrence. When painting landscapes, hyper-realism is not the ultimate goal but rather using color, texture, and perspective to capture the beauty of the space in the way that describes the out-of-body reaction from the sight of it.
